Inspiration Wednesdays!

Ok, so I know that today is Sunday, not Wednesday but our dear Hudson Valley Etsy Team does a fantastic blog and every Wednesday (or two Wednesdays now, thank goodness) a post is made from the fabulous artist, Shannon, of For My Sweet Daughter (from a dazzling array of design-seeds.com palettes) to challenge us creators to fashion an item using said color palette. Breath!

This week I finally did it.  Truth be known it is a palette that I have many matching pieces to but I dug back into my stash and made a simple set to complete this weeks challenge.

About Town

One of the nicest things is seeing artwork from other members of the Hudson Valley Etsy Team.  The other day I went out into the town of New Paltz with my husband and daughter to play in the park.  When we were finished on the swings I took the little one to our new favorite shop, The Tree House, where she had been eying the adorable (and affordable) little sock dolls each time we visited.  With money being tight (and her having plenty of toys) I held off on buying her anything but she had some birthday money to spend this time so we picked out an adorable onsie and a colorful sock doll.

While we were there I noticed Milestone Decal Art and Tickled Pink Knits have a bunch of neat pieces around the shop.  I love going into a local shop and being able to identify an artist from the team, it's a wonderful feeling to know that your team members are out and about in the same places I love to shop.  It's thrilling to be part of the local handmade community.

I thought this jellyfish platter was particularly interesting, it has such wonderful detail!

Rainy Days

Well,  I have not accomplished my goal of getting my shop and new items photographed today.  At least not yet, but I have done a rather impressive job tiding up the house!  Since I don't have a studio set up here I don't have a convenient and well lit place to photograph my pieces while it's so stormy outside.  But it's not all a loss, I've cleaned more than I thought possible in one day and I've started catching up with the Hudson Valley Etsy Team, which is a big push for me.  I'm excited at the prospect of being able to meet up with a few from this wonderful group as I have been feeling rather lost in the web world lately and am craving the creativity!

Getting Organized

Not too long ago we moved into our very first house!  And while that is very exciting, it is also very frustrating.  As a couple we tend to keep anything that we might some day use in an art project; knowing full well that it could be years-till-never when we finally use it.  So, needless to say unpacking and organizing the house is taking up a lot of my time!

So, my goal for today is to clear off and clean a well lit surface; and my goal for tomorrow is to shoot all the new pieces I have!

Wish me luck!

Is it Autumn Already?

I am a seasons person.  I love 'em, gotta have 'em and hate hate hate to see them go!  For me it's a double edged sword that comes around about 4 times a year and I can't believe that it's autumn already!  (Well technically it isn't but you try telling everyone else that.)

So, alas I am giving in, moving my shop around to feature this seasons natural colors and I will resign myself to be happy about it because I know that soon I will be pouring myself a glass of apple cider or brewing a pumpkin spice coffee to go with my warm banana muffins or apple pie.

Here are a few listed items in appropriate fall color!

Getting Settled

Well, it seemed rather silly that I started this blog so long ago and haven't been back since my first post!  I'll tell you a little bit about why.  After November we moved from Alexandria, VA to Gettysburg, PA.  As beautiful as Gettysburg is the internet was not the best, fastest or easiest to come by and packing up my new little bundle of joy every morning for a screaming car ride to the local cafe was not high on my list of fun things to do.  So, instead I tried to use my time in between diaper changes to make a few pieces.  We did eventually leave the battlefields and move back north to the Hudson Valley where, yes, the internet is much better.  But we bought a house!  And it needed MAJOR work so most of the last 5 months or so have been spent finding, buying and fixing up our new little ranch.

While we were living with my parents (as it took a while for the sale to go through and fix the place up to "livable") I got to get down to business for just a little while and jumped into wire wrapping.  It was great!  And I used up all my wire...  Which is good and bad, I have some beautiful earrings to show for it but not enough money to go and buy more to keep my fingers busy.  Maybe blogging will help that ;-)
